Men's Soccer Ties First Conference Game

GEORGETOWN, Texas – After going into double-overtime, the Southwestern University men's soccer team ended Friday's game in a 1-1 tie against the University of Dallas.

In the first half, the Pirates attacked the Crusader defense, taking shots at goalie Chase Reynolds. Even with two corner kicks, the Pirates could not find the back of the Crusader net. However, this did not stop Luis Ramirez, who took a shot at Reynolds and scored the first goal of the game, giving the Pirates an early advantage.  Dallas was unable to score a goal before the half, so the Southwestern Pirates went into halftime with the lead.

In the second half, Dallas came back as Chima Ogueri scored a goal for the Crusaders within the first three minutes. With the game tied, the Pirates picked up the pace, trying to score the much needed second goal to win the game. The effort showed with Pirates taking 12 shots on the Crusader's goal, but with the clock ticking down the game ended going into overtime.

Once again the Pirates would outshoot Dallas by taking five shots at the goal in the first overtime and then four in the second.  Despite the effort, the Pirates could not score the winning goal, and the game ended in a tie in the team's first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match.

Up next, the Pirates will return to the field Sunday to play the Austin College Roos in their second conference game in Georgetown at 2 p.m.
