Karschnik Scores Game-Winning Goal in OT

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Kip Karschnik's game-winning goal in the first overtime period kept the Southwestern's men's soccer team's undefeated month intact as they defeated Colorado College 1-0 on Sunday.

In a spectacular showing by both teams, Southwestern Pirate Kip Karschnik was able to bring home the win by scoring the game-winning shot for the Pirates in overtime against Colorado College.

The Pirates, now 4-1-1 (2-0-1 SCAC) on the season, had trouble most of the game trying to find the back of the net. For most of the game against the Tigers, both teams were able to have scoring chances but were unable to capitalize. Throughout the first half Karschnik, Sacco Fernandez, Jake Swonke and Alex Newell took shots on goal that were blocked or saved by Tigers' goalie Keller Mochel.

In the second half, Karschnik would not yield and kept attacking the box, as well as Luke Orren; however, once again, like in the first half, the ball would not find the back of the net. At the end of regulation, the game remained scoreless and the teams headed into overtime.

Dejan Savic was the first to take a shot on goal for the Pirates, but it was Karschniks, who would total five shots in the game, including three on goal, took a sharp shot into the right side of the net to score the game-winner for the Pirates. Not only was this the game-winning shot, but this would also make Karschniks first goal of the 2018 season.

Goalie Sam Laude also had a total of five saves for the Pirates.

Up next, Southwestern travels to Seguin TX to face Texas Lutheran for a 7:00 p.m. game Tuesday, Sept. 18.
