Men's Soccer Wins First Conference Game

Men's Soccer Wins First Conference Game

GEORGETOWN, Texas -  Men's soccer once again makes a statement in the season's first conference game with a 2-0 win in against Schreiner University.

The Pirates wasted no time putting pressure on the Mountaineers on the offense. With only 20 minutes into the game, Alex Newell made his first goal of the season by heading it into the net with an assist by Wil Mekelburg. This would be the only goal made in the first half with Southwestern in the led. Coming into the second half, Schreiner pushed hard offensively trying to get back into the game. However, the Pirates defense stood strong by only allowing two shots on goal from the Mountaineers.

With a strong defense, the Pirates picked up on the offense and made several attempts at goal in the second half. This urgency on the offense led Brendan Dauth to score the final goal of the game to give the Pirates the win over the Mountaineers.

The Pirates are now 3-1 in the season and are heading on the road to face Johnson & Wales, which is 2-2 in their 2018 season. The match will take place Friday, Sept. 3 at 5:00 p.m.
