Men's Soccer Defeat 19th Ranked Rutgers-Newark

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Southwestern Pirates take an exciting win over nationally ranked Rutgers-Newark with the final score 2-0. 

The Pirates wasted no time putting the ball in the goal as Jakle Swoke scored the first goal at 3:56 minutes into the first half. Not long after Luke Stanton scored the second goal for the Pirates, assisted by Brendan Dauth at 23:00 minutes into the game. For the rest of the game, the Scarlet Raiders were hustling to find their way back into the game but could not seem to find a way to score. 

With a total of 20 shots taken by the Scarlet Raiders, Sam Laude had a total of 4 saves for the Pirates. Offensively the Pirates had a total of 7 shots on goal with Scarlet Raiders Christian Andrach making 1 save.

Opening their season their season with a loss against #3 ranked Chicago on Friday, the Pirates proved with their win tonight against Rutgers that they are taking strides to a promising season. The Pirates will play their next match at home against Concordia Texas on Friday, Sept. 7th.
