Pirates Fall Short in Season Opener Against Chicago

GEORGETOWN, Texas. - The men's soccer team fought hard in the season opener against the Chicago Maroons, but could not find their rhythm in the second half and finished the game 0-1 Chicago.

Things seemed to be even in the first half for both Pirates and Maroons in shot attempts. Out of a total of 9 shot attempts at the goal, Dejan Savic and Jake Swonke each had two of those attempts. However, by the second half the Pirates lost their speed and Chicago had made more offensive moves which led them to a total of 21 goal shot attempts. This allowed Chicago to keep their lead after Carter Romero scored in the first half for the Maroons.

The Pirates fought back in the second half but could not seem to place the ball back on the offensive side. With the final seconds counting down on the clock the game would end 0-1 for the final score.

The Southwestern Pirates now look to the next upcoming game Sunday, Sept. 8th, against Rutgers-Newark, which fell to Trinity's men's soccer team late Friday, Aug. 31st.
