Five Pirates Earn All-SCAC Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - A total of five student-athletes from the Southwestern University men's soccer team were named to the 2017 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Team on Tuesday afternoon.

In exclusive voting by the head women's soccer coaches of the SCAC, four players were named to the second team in senior Ryan Benner, junior Jake Swonke, sophomore Kip Karschnik, and sophomore Logan Jenkins. Additionally, senior Victor Herrera was named to honorable mention.

Benner, a senior from Allen, Texas, started in 19 matches while playing in 21. He was third in the SCAC in saves with 99, fifth in save percentage at .750, and sixth in goals-against average at 1.57. Benner had five wins on the season and was a major key to the Pirates upsetting Colorado College in the first round of the SCAC Championship.

Swonke, a junior from Cypress, Texas, was the top goal scorer for the Pirates, starting and playing in all 21 matches. He was sixth in the SCAC with eight goals and also added an assist on the season. He was seventh in points with 17 and seventh in shots with 53.

Karschnik, a sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, playing in 21 matches while earning the start in 18. He finished with five goals and five assists for a total of 15 points, all in the top 15 of the conference. He was 10th in the SCAC with 45 shots.

Jenkins, a sophomore from Grapevine, Texas, played in all 21 matches and was one of the top defenders for the Pirates all season long. Jenkins led a tough Pirates defense all season long en route to three shutouts of the season.

Herrera, a senior from Grapevine, Texas, played in 17 matches on the season and was terrific as a defender all season long as one of the senior leaders.
