Pirates Bow Out of SCAC Tournament with Loss to Dallas in Semifinals

IRVING, Texas - After pulling a huge upset yesterday, the No. 6 seed Southwestern University men's soccer team could not make it two matches in a row as they fell to the No. 2 seed and host Dallas Crusaders by the score of 4-1 in the SCAC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates were outshot 19-6 on the day including a 12-2 advantage in the first half along. The Pirates did hold a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks, but it was not enough in front of a capacity crowd at Crusader Field.

Dallas got an early goal in the 8th minute from Hunter Haugland and pushed it out to 2-0 just before the half on a goal from Chima Ogueri. The Crusaders increased the lead to three on Haugland's second goal early in the second half.

Southwestern cut the deficit to 3-1 on a goal from junior Jake Swonke in the 63rd minute, his eighth of the season, but Dallas put the match away for good as Nat Kajiwara made it 4-1 in teh 79th minute.

The Pirates just could not overcome the strong Crusader squad as they saw their season come to an end.

Sophomore Dejan Savic led the attack with a pair of shots while Swonke had the lone goal. Freshman Jaxon Whittington earned an assist on the goal. Senior Ryan Benner finished with three saves while sophomore Alan Carr added one.

The Pirates conclude their season at 6-12-3 with an appearance in the SCAC Semifinals.
