SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern University men's soccer team could not overcome a pair of first half goals by the second-ranked Trinity Tigers as they fell to 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Paul McGinlay Field.
The Tigers held a 20-8 advantage in shots on the afternoon along with a 12-2 advantage in corner kick.
Trinity took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute with a little help from the Pirates as an own goal by Southwestern gave the Tigers the early advantage. It did not take Trinity long to strike again as Guy Harris made it 2-0 in the 12th minute.
Southwestern fought back and shored up its back line to keep a great Trinity attack in check for the rest of the game. However, the Pirates just could not get enough chances of their own in their attack as they would eventually fall by two goals.
Senior Ryan Benner had a solid outing in goal against one of the best teams in the nation, finishing with eight saves in the contest. Jake Swonke led the attack with two shots on the afternoon.
Southwestern moves to 4-8-3 overall and 2-6-3 in conference play. The Pirates will be back in action Friday as they will make the long trek to Colorado Springs to battle Colorado College on Friday at 8 PM MT.
