Pirates drop contest 2-1 to Schreiner

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Pirates couldn't get going offensively as they fell 2-1 to Schreiner University at home Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Schreiner gained control early in the match, taking advantage of a Pirate miscue and sent Southwestern into the locker room trailing 1-0.
  • The Pirates looked the most dangerous early in the second frame, but Gutierrez brought the ball through the heart of the Pirate defense and struck the ball low to put Schreiner up 2-0.
  • Christian Lopez was taken down in the box on a break towards goal and the Pirates were awarded the penalty kick. Andres Carreno-Mendez struck the ball low and hard to put it in the back of the net and pull the Pirates within one, 2-1, with just under 15 minutes remaining.
