Pirates and Gents end in tie after double OT

SHREVEPORT, La. – After 110 minutes of action the Southwestern men's soccer team and Centenary Gents had to settle for a 2-2 tie in SCAC action on Sunday.

With no scoring to speak of the in first half, the Pirates and Gents opened the second half on a furious pace. Less than six minutes into the half, Centenary gained control with an unassisted goal from Ivann Amaya. Southwestern's red-hot offensive duo of Andres Carreño-Mendez and Christian Lopez had the answer in the 66th minute.

Centenary went up 2-1 in the 76th minute as Amaya scored his second unassisted goal of the game. With less than seven minutes remaining, Carreño-Mendez assisted as Nick Petterson scored his first goal of the season to tie the count 2-2.

Neither team was able to get on the board in either overtime as the game closed as a 2-2 tie.

Southwestern dominated the shot count 26-10 and had the only shots of the overtime frames, posting six shots in overtime. Centenary's keeper Rylan Whan was outstanding in goal with 12 saves while SU's counterpart, Travis Carmichael, was barely tested, recording one save.

The Pirates move to 5-7-1 on the year and 5-3-1 in the SCAC while Centenary moves to 4-5-3 overall and 1-5-3 in conference action. SU remains in sole possession of third place in the conference with five games remaining.
