#16 Tigers snap Pirates' win streak

#16 Tigers snap Pirates' win streak

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Colorado College shut down Southwestern's potent offense to snap SU;s four game win streak with a 3-0 shutout on Friday night.

Both teams were extremely aggressive as the game got underway and at the midway point the Tigers' seized control as they took advantage of the awarded penalty kick. Max Grossenbacher took the PK and drilled the ball toward the left post as starting keeper Travis Carmichael dove right to give CC a 1-0 lead.

Less than a minute later, Grossenbacher surprised even himself as his low, driving shot from 35 yards out found the back of the net through a maze of Pirate defenders. With 20 minutes remaining the Pirates were trailing 2-0.

Southwestern wasn't able to make up any ground before halftime despite some well executed attacks as the Tigers used a very effective offside trap to keep the Pirates at bay.

SU's continued to press on in the second half and got some good looks early, but the Tigers extended their lead on Caden Mackenzie's goal in the 60th minute.

The Pirates broke past CC's trap on one occasion and Carlos Huntley-Jimenez took a blazing shot inside the box, but Hooker made an outstanding save to keep the Pirates off the board. Southwestern faced six offsides calls in the loss.

CC led 16-4 in shots and 7-2 in corner kicks. They improve to 10-1 on the year and remain atop the SCAC at 6-0 while the Pirates fall to 4-6 on the year and 4-2 in the conference.

SU returns to action on Sunday as they host Centenary College at noon.
