Southwestern volleyball, men’s soccer to learn postseason fate on Monday

GEORGETOWN, Texas - As runners-up in the SCAC Championship match and strong overall season records including big wins over nationally-ranked opponents, the Southwestern volleyball and men's soccer teams have a shot at being awarded an at-large bid into the NCAA National Tournament.

SU volleyball will be the first to find out if they made the Championships as the NCAA airs the Division III selection show at 10am CST. The Pirates finished the season 26-11 overall with statement wins over Eastern University and Colorado College. This could be the ninth consecutive postseason berth for Southwestern.

Then the men's soccer team gets their turn as the Division III NCAA selection show airs at noon CST. SU ended the year at 14-7-1 overall record and posted quality wins against Colorado College and Trinity. Couple that with a strong showing in the SCAC Conference Tournament, and the SU men's soccer team has their best argument ever to receive an at-large bid.

The Pirates were ranked fifth in the last West Region rankings, trailing behind Trinity (1), Puget Sound (2), UT Dallas (3) and Whitworth (4). Puget Sound (14-5-0) fell 3-2 in overtime to Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, UT Dallas (12-1-6) fell in the semifinals on penalty kicks to UT Tyler, and Whitworth (12-3-3) defeated Whitman 2-0 in their final regular season match.
