Pirates take down TLU to move within one win of SU record

SEGUIN, Texas -  With a 2-0 win over Texas Lutheran on Sunday the Pirate men are one win shy of tying the SU record for most wins in a season with 14, set in 2001.

It took just two minutes for Southwestern to strike as Paden Williams put home the rebound off of Zach Faulkner's shot into the lower corner past the keeper.

With a 1-0 lead the Pirates continued to press and quickly pushed their lead to two in the seventh minute. Steven Resnik, assisted by Williams and Matthew Nickell, put the ball away and gave Southwestern some breathing room.

Despite having more than 80 minutes still remaining in the game Southwestern held the Bulldogs scoreless the rest of the way as SU's tough defense recorded their seventh shutout of the season.

The Pirates led by only one in the shot count, 13-12, and trailed 6-4 in corner kicks in the match. Daniel Poole recorded five saves in the match to help post the shutout.

With the win Southwestern improves to 11-1-1 on the year and remain in second place in the SCAC. They close out regular season action at home on Friday with a rematch against conference-rival and current #1 seed Trinity. Southwestern won the first match of the season 1-0 in San Antonio. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
