Men's Soccer off to best conference start, remain perfect

IRVING, Texas - The Southwestern men's soccer team pulled out a 2-1 win over the University of Dallas to remain perfect in SCAC conference play and are off to their best start ever.

It took just 11 minutes for the Pirates to seize control of the game as leading goal scorer, Steven Resnik, added another goal, assisted by Zach Faulkner, to give SU a lead they would never relinquish.

Thirty seconds before the first half came to a close, SU extended their lead as Garhett Bonneaux, assisted by Paden Williams, brought the count to 2-0 and gave the Pirates some breathing room.

With a comfortable lead Southwestern's defense took over and dominated the second half, holding the Crusaders scoreless until seconds before the final horn sounded as Nathan Nwaeze snuck one past Daniel Poole in goal.

The shot count was nearly even with SU taking a slight 17-16 advantage but took four corner kicks while allowing just one in the match. Poole recorded three saves in the win.

With the win Southwestern improves to 9-4 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in conference play. This is the best start to SCAC action for the Pirates since going  6-0 to open in 2010.

The Pirates return home to start the second half of their conference schedule and are sure to face eager comptitors on Friday, facing Colorado College at 7 p.m.
