Colorado opened the match with an aggressive style, testing the Pirate defense early. SU held strong and rarely allowed even a decent look at goal, turning the defensive stand into strong counter-attacks.
The Tigers pulled the first punch in the 15th minute when Alec Sowers played the ball into the middle from the right sideline to Matt Fechter who was unmarked in front of the goal at the edge of the 18, putting Colorado up 1-0.
The Pirates had a great look off the kick-off catching CC's keeper Brian Graf out of position, but no Pirate could get it past the defensive line and into the net.
Colorado added another goal in the 30th minute when Fechter lobbed the ball perfectly over charging SU keeper Nick Pierce.
Southwestern was able to close the gap just minutes later when Evan Perkins broke away from the pack and found Tim Eamma streaking towards the goal. Perkins delivered the ball at the feet of Eamma, putting him one on one with Graf in goal. Graf attempted a slide to break-up the shot, but Eamma placed the ball perfectly to his left putting the score at 2-1.
Colorado pushed it back to a two goal lead, 3-1 on a breakaway by Patrick Robinson with less than ten minutes to go in the half and that is how the half would close.
The Pirates came out of halftime with the wind at their back and started strong with a shot by Perkins that veered just right of the goal. Southwestern continued to press and had dangerous ball after dangerous ball go across the goal, but had no one there to put it away.
In the 75th minute Colorado added another goal and one more in the 84th to put the count at 5-1.
Southwestern led in corners (10-2) but trailed in shots 13-10. Three seniors closed out their home play on Sunday, Dishon Isaac, Colin McCulloch and Nick Pierce.
Southwestern falls to 6-8-1 on the year and 3-4 in the SCAC with the loss, putting them just outside the all-important top 6 to make the SCAC tournament. They head out on the road next weekend to close out regular season action at Austin College and the University of Dallas. A win at both places could mean a post-season berth for the Pirates.
