Pirates Shocked in Kentucky

Pirates Shocked in Kentucky

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Southwestern men's soccer team dropped their first SCAC conference match on Sunday afternoon, getting shutout on the road by Centre College. The loss drops SU to 4-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference while Centre improves to 5-3-1, 1-1 in the SCAC.

Centre scored just four minutes into the contest and didn't let up, putting three goals on the scoreboard in the first half and added one more seven minutes into the second half to take a commanding 4 goal lead.

The Colonels could sink in and focus on defense at that point which is precisely what they did, keeping the Pirates at bay despite taking nine second half shots.

It was a physical contest with seven yellow cards being handed out throughout.

Despite the lopsided final, Southwestern trailed by just two shots 15-13, and had one more corner kick (4-3).

Steven Resnik led the attack with three shots, all on frame, for the Pirates. Nick Pierce recorded six saves in 63 minutes in goal while Daniel Poole (pictured) closed out the game with one save in 27 minutes.

Southwestern will regroup and head home, continuing SCAC action on Friday night against Millsaps. Game time is currently set for 4:00 pm but may be changed for the Pirates' first night contest of the season.
