Men's Lacrosse Wraps Up Season Against Colorado College

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Men's Lacrosse (2-11) wrapped up their final game of the season against the Colorado College Tigers (5-4) on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates fought hard against the Tigers throughout the game, going into halftime trailing two goals, 6-4. However, the Tigers came storming out of the break in what would be an 8-1 third quarter in favor of Colorado College. The Pirates rebounded in the fourth, outscoring the Tigers 6-3 in the final quarter, but the Pirates were unable to overcome the deficit by the end, with the Tigers taking an 11-17 victory on Varsity Field. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior attackman Matt Caldwell capped off his career with a hat trick and one assist for four points on the day. Caldwell is now sixth all-time in the record books for points in a career, fifth all-time in goals in a career, and tied for ninth in assists all time.
  • Matthew Houtz recorded a hat trick in the game to go along with Caldwell. Cade McDonald also had three points with two goals and one assist.
  • Chris Steffek caused five turnovers against Colorado College, scooped up two ground balls, and added two assists to the offense.
  • Will Walsh stopped fifteen shots against the Tigers, saving 47% of his shots faced.

NOTES

  • Southwestern cleared at 85.2% on the afternoon and were even against the Tigers in turnovers with twenty-one a piece. 
  • Trey Pena went an even 50% at the faceoff, leading the Pirates with twelve faceoff wins. Southwestern was 47% on the day as a whole.
  • Colorado College out-groundballed the Pirates in the contest, 44-37.
