Offense stalls in loss to Elmhurst

Southwestern was held scoreless until the fourth quarter in a 9-3 loss to Elmhurst College on Sunday in Illinois.

Elmhurst dominated the first half, scoring three in the first quarter and four in the second to send the Pirates into the locker room down 7-0.

Southwestern's defense tightened up in the second half as SU allowed just one goal in the third quarter, but the offense was still quiet as the Pirates trailed 8-0 heading into the fourth.

Elmhurst notched one more goal five minutes into the frame before Southwestern was able to get rolling. Everett Barger scored first, assisted by Parker Rankin, and Matthew Montagne followed with a goal assisted by Matt Amerie.

Connor Koper scored with 1:42 remaining in the game and was the last goal for either team as Southwestern fell 9-3.

SU trailed just 29-27 in shots and committed two fewer turnovers while picking up three fewer ground balls in the loss. Southwestern falls to 4-8 on the year while Elmhurst improves to 4-5 overall.
