Pirates tie SU record in final regular season contest

GEORGETOWN, Texas – With a 24-0 win on senior day the Southwestern men's lacrosse team tied the record for most goals in a game and end the regular season with their best record ever, 10-4.

Southwestern was relatively slow to start, scoring just five goals in the first quarter, but busted the game open in the second with 10 goals to lead 15-0 at halftime.

Tyler Downing led in the first half with four goals while Jeremy Tufnell and Austin Fox added in three each.

The Pirates continued to roll in the second half and scored seven goals in the third quarter before working the clock and scoring two goals in the fourth to arrive at the 24-0 record tying final.

SU first scored 24 goals against the University of Dallas in 2011 and matched the effort against Centenary in 2013 and again today.

The Pirates led in every offensive category, leading 49-7 in shots and winning 21 of 25 faceoffs and collecting 45 of 55 ground balls. SU was also a perfect 5-5 in man-up opportunities and successful on 13-14 clears.

Charlie Fisher and AJ Cole split time in goal with each recording one save in the win. Downing led with five goals and two assists on eight shots while Fox added in four goals and two assists. Jackson Timian led with four assists and six ground balls on the afternoon.

Southwestern looks to set another record on April 26th as they vie for the SCAC Conference Championship at home against Colorado College at 1 p.m.
