Men’s lacrosse sets new SU record with win

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – With a 16-4 win over Franciscan on Friday night the Pirate men's lacrosse team set a new Southwestern record for most wins in a season, moving to 8-4 on the year.

SU dominated the game from beginning to end, never doubting they would make history. Kyle Anderson, assisted by Austin Fox, started off a 4-1 first quarter run to give SU confidence and breathing room. A relatively quiet second quarter sent the Pirates into the locker room with a 5-2 lead.

Clearly, Southwestern wasn't happy with their lead and unloaded on the Barons with 11 second half goals, six in the third quarter and five in the fourth, while allowing just two to cruise to the 16-4 win.

SU led 45-19 in shots and 29-12 in ground balls while forcing Franciscan into 26 turnovers and committing just 12.

Tyler Downing continued his offensive dominance with five goals to lead all scorers while Matthew Montagne added in three goals. Fox posted a game high three assists while adding a goal. Anderson and Downing each had six ground balls to lead in the game while Chris Adams forced an impressive five turnovers in the win.

With another first under their belt, the Pirates look to increase their win percentage as they face Capital on Sunday at 11 am CST for their final road game of the regular season.
