Pirates dominate in SCAC play; tie SU record for most wins

SHREVEPORT, La. – Southwestern men's lacrosse continued their strong play with a 19-1 SCAC win to improve to 7-4 on the year and 1-2 in the SCAC, tying the record for most wins in a season.

Southwestern dominated the first quarter, quickly exerting their dominance to lead 6-0 after the first frame. Tyler Downing posted two goals while Carter Cowan added a goal and assist to lead the first quarter scoring.

Centenary scored first to open the second quarter, but from that point on it was all Southwestern as the Pirates closed the first half with seven unanswered goals and added six unanswered in the third to cruise to the 19-1 win.

Austin Fox led with four goals on the afternoon while Alex Michael had one goal and four assists. Travis Zeiler led with eight ground balls.

Southwestern controlled every category offensively, taking 41 shots while allowing just 7 and won 19 of the 23 faceoffs. Southwestern also gathered 35 ground balls and Centenary 15.

With the win SU moves to 7-4 on the year and has a chance to make history in their next contest. The Pirates will look to secure their eighth win of the season on April 4th against Franciscan at 4 p.m. EST.
