Southwestern Topped in SCAC Tourney Finals

The Pirate men's lacrosse team had a tough task ahead of them and played extremely well in the first half before falling 24-2 to Colorado College in the Championship game of the SCAC Conference Tournament.

Elliot Kelly got the Pirates out to a strong start, scoring the first goal of the game with 10:21 to play in the first to hand SU a 1-0 lead. The Tigers responded with three goals to close the first with a 3-1 lead.

Jeremy Tufnell scored SU's second goal with just over three minutes to play in the second, but the lone Pirate goal was sandwiched with two goals on each side as Colorado College took a 7-2 into halftime.

The Tigers had control the rest of the way as Southwestern's offense stalled out. Colorado added eight goals in the third and nine in the fourth to hand SU the 24-2 loss.

Southwestern's Charlie Fisher recorded 16 saves in goal for the Pirates. SU trailed 54-17 in shots and won just 11-30 faceoffs. The Pirates also committed 11 more turnovers and picked up nine fewer ground balls. Fisher and Daniel Ayala led SU with three ground balls each while Zach Finger and Ayala led the Pirates with two caused turnovers each.

Southwestern ends the year with a 7-9 overall record. Two seniors ended their career in Colorado, Jamie Long and Elliot Kelly.
