Men’s Lacrosse Dominates Centenary in Home Opener

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern came home for the first time this season to open SCAC conference action and put on a show for fans with a 22-2 victory over Centenary College on Friday night.

Southwestern exploded out of the gates with four goals in the opening eight minutes including three goals from Jamie Long. Centenary got on the board with six minutes to play in the first quarter on a man-down goal by Matt Thomas, but Southwestern quickly took back full control of the game with nine unanswered goals to lead by 12, 13-1, at halftime.

After a scoreless opening four minutes of the second half, Southwestern's offensive onslaught returned as they piled on seven goals in the third quarter and held Centenary scoreless to push their lead to 19, 20-1, with one quarter remaining.

Centenary scored their second goal to open the fourth after winning the faceoff, but Southwestern posted two more in the fourth to arrive at the 22-2 final.

Austin Fox led the scoring for SU with five goals and two assists while Long was incredibly efficient with four goals on eight shots with three assists. AJ Cole earned the win between the pipes seeing minimal action, recording two saves on four shots.

The Pirates led in every offensive category. SU posted 58 shots while holding the Gents to just seven and picked up 31 ground balls to Centenary's eight.

Southwestern improves to 3-2 on the year and opens up conference play at 1-0. Centenary falls to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in the SCAC. They return to action on Wednesday, facing Misericordia at 7 p.m.
