Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Contest to Concordia

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern was only outshot by three and had two fewer ground balls but lost 9-3 to Concordia (WI) on Monday evening. 

Concordia opened the game with three first quarter goals to lead 3-0 after one frame and added in three more in the second before Southwestern got into the game offensively. Nathan Balke punched home his second goal of the season with 2:14 left on the clock before halftime to pull the Pirates within five, 6-1. CUW's Sam Wladyka answered 30 seconds later to put the Falcons up by six, 7-1, heading into halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter Concordia posted a goal 40 seconds into the fourth quarter. Jamie Long found Carter Cowan streaking toward the goal with 6:54 on the clock to bring SU within six, 8-3. A minute and a half later Tyler Downing took the ball the length of the field and scored after Micheal Villa caused a turnover and picked up the ground ball to put the score at 8-3. A man-up goal by Concordia with 1:42 remaining in the game closed out the contest for the 9-3 final.

Southwestern took three fewer shots (29-26) and picked up two fewer ground balls (30-28), but committed one fewer turnover (19-18). Chris O'Quain suffered the loss but recorded eight saves in 50 minutes. CUW's Danny Dahms led all scorers with three goals and two assists. 

The loss drops Southwestern to 0-7 on the year as they move into conference action. They host Birmingham Southern on Friday afternoon. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
