Upset Bid Falls Short for Pirates

On a windy and steamy afternoon in Georgetown, Texas the Southwestern lacrosse team was unable to pull off the upset to hand Birmingham Southern their first conference loss of the season as they fell 20-5 in SCAC Conference action.

Birmingham Southern converted on their first four shots and continued to pile on the goals in the first quarter as Southwestern fell behind 11-3 after one period and 14-4 at halftime.

The Pirates' offense went stagnant in the second half as the Panthers cooled off as well. BSC added five goals in the third and each team added one in the fourth as Birmingham Southern took the 20-5 win.

BSC led in every offensive category, taking 20 more shots than the Pirates, 46-26, winning 17 of the 29 faceoffs and converting 24 of their 26 clears. Southwestern was only able to convert on one of their 14 man up opportunities in the game.

Gus Brunger was the lone Pirate with multiple goals, scoring two in the match while Jamie Long and Alex Michael both recorded two points with one goal and one assist.
