Men's Golf Finishes Fourth at Crusader Invitational

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – The Pirates of Southwestern University finished fourth out of a strong field of 13 schools with nine in the top 50 that took part in the WinStar Crusader Invitational hosted by the University of Dallas.

The rain-shortened, one-day event at the 6,998-yard, par 72 WinStar Resort Rosebud Golf Course provided a challenge for all 13 squads despite just 18 holes being played.

Southwestern was two shots off second place to the University of Texas at Dallas, but it was ninth-ranked LeTourneau University that took home top honors in the team portion of the competition with a 3-over (291). Sixteenth-ranked UT-Dallas carded a 10-over, while Schreiner University and Southwestern tallied scores of 11-over and 12-over, respectively.

Matthew Peekser carded a 2-over (74) to lead the Pirates. Peekser's score was good enough for a five-way tie for seventh place. LeTourneau's Kaiden Schneider was the medalist honors with the event's best score over 2-under (70).

Southwestern teammates Nicholas Hoisington and Bryce Stiemart were among a contingent of five Pirates that took part in the event that all scored within four strokes of each other.

Hoisington and Stiemart turned in scores of 3-over (75) while Christian Rodriguez signed his scorecard with a 4-over (76) and Rex Newsom had a 6-over (77).
