Men's Golf Wins The SCAC Preview

BLANCO, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's golf team placed three golfers in the top five to win the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Preview with a combined score of 582, defeating McMurry University by nine strokes.

Cade Osgood improved on a his first-day performance by two strokes, scoring a 70 in the second round to finish at 142; falling one stroke shy of Trinity University's Daniel Nunez, the individual winner.

The Pirates' senior All-American finished with 24 pars, scoring eight birdies and making good on Par 5 holes, finishing four under in Par 5 scoring and two under par overall.

First Year Austin Kelley made a big move up the standings, scoring a 71 in the second round, improving on his first-day performance of 74 to move up from a tie for 17th to fourth with a score of 145. Kelley finished with 11 birdies, trailing only Nunez's 15.

Sophomore Colin O'Hern scored a 73 for a second consecutive day, finishing with a 146 to place fifth. O'Hern had six birdies and made par 23 times, doing most of his damage on Par 4 scoring, where he finished just one over, trailing only Nunez, who broke even.

Sophomore Thomas Kuznar scored a 152 to finish in a tie for 21st and senior John Kellum scored a 154 to tie for 31st, rounding out the Pirates' five-man lineup.

This is the Pirates' first overall event victory this season. Southwestern will return to play in a four-day event at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational from Thursday, March 19 through Sunday, March 22 in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
