Men's Golf Finishes Second at SCAC Championships

BLANCO, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's golf team made a furious comeback but fell short at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships, finishing second behind the University of Dallas.

Southwestern started the day looking up at Texas Lutheran University and Dallas after struggling through the first two rounds, scoring a 301 and 305 on the first day. The Pirates finished with the best round of any team, scoring a 284 in Round 3, but could not contend with Dallas' consistency, scoring a 295, 295, and 295 to win with a combined score of 886.

Devon Horne and Sutherland Stith paced the Pirates with each scoring a 223, finishing in a three-way tie for sixth. Horne bounced back from a rough second round to score a 70 in the third, scoring five birdies, and Stith improved each round, going from 77 to 76 and finishing with a 70, scoring five birdies in the final round and making par on 15 of the 18 holes.

Matthew Christl rounded out the Pirates who finished in the top 10, scoring a 224 with a 71 in the final round. Cade Osgood finished 13th with a 226, recovering from an 82 in Round 1 to score 71 and 73 in the final two rounds. John Kellum finished tied for 22nd with a 235, scoring a 78 on the final day.
