Stith Paces Pirates in First Round of Linda Lowery Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas - The 22nd-ranked Southwestern University men's golf team opened their 2018 season by shooting a 302 (+18) on Monday morning in the first round of the Linda Lowery Invitational at the River Place Country Club.

No. 7 Concordia leads the way with 294 (+10) while top-ranked Texas-Tyler sits second with a score of 300 (+16). Concordia's B Team and Schreiner rounded out the top five with a score of 307 (+23).

The Pirates led the way in birdies with 15 as well as Par 5 scoring at -1 on the afternoon.

Senior Sutherland Stith shot a 73 (+3) to lead the Pirates while leading the way in Par 3 scoring at -1. He currently sits in third. Stith finished would three birdies and shot a 36 on the front nine.

Senior Tyler Gammill shot a 75 (+5) to sit in ninth while leading the field in Par 5 scoring at -2. Junior Matthew Christl and sophomore Cade Osgood each shot a 77 (+7) while junior Devon Horne rounded out the scoring with an 80 (+10).

The Pirates will tee off for the second and final round tomorrow at 8:30 AM as they will look to make up ground on the leaderboard.
