Pirate Men Sit Second After First Two Rounds of Rhodes Classic

TUNICA, Miss. - The Southwestern University men's golf team shot 287 (-1) and 288 (E) for a two-round score of 575 (-1) after day one of the 2017 Rhodes College Fall Classic at Tunica National.

Emory University leads the way after shooting a 283 (-5) in round one for a two round score of 568 (-8). Texas-Tyler is in third with a two round score of 579 (+3) followed by Rhodes at 582 (+6) and Maryville at 588 (+12).

As a team, Southwestern was terrific in Par 4 scoring at +10, leading the field, and second in Par 3 scoring at E. The Pirates also led the field with 36 birdies as a team.

Senior Sutherland Stith was terrific in both rounds, shooting a 70 (-2) and a 69 (-3) to sit in sixth place with a two round score of 139 (-5). Stith has 10 birdies in two rounds, good for second on the leaderboard, and is first in Par 4 scoring at -5.

Fellow senior Tyler Gammill shot a 72 (E) in round one and followed it up with an impressive 69 (-3) in round two, finishing with four birdies and 13 pars. Gammill currently leads the entire field with 28 pars. Sophomore Cade Osgood is 14th after a 70 (-2) and 75 (+3) for a two round score of 145 (+1).

Rounding out the field was sophomore Andrew Augustine shot a pair of 75s (+3) for a two round score of 150 (+6) while junior Matthew Christl shot a 75 (+3) and 77 (+5) for a two round score of 152 (+8).

Southwestern will look to make up ground in the final round tomorrow as they are set to tee off around 8:00 AM in Tunica.
