#17 Southwestern men’s golf set to open NCAA Championship

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Southwestern men's golf tees off Tuesday for the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, making their fourth consecutive tournament appearance.

The 41-team, 210-man tournament will be played over two courses in Rochester, N.Y.; Midvale Country Club and Mendon Golf Club. After 36 holes, the field will be trimmed to the top-15 teams, plus the top-five individuals not playing on one of the top-15 teams. The remaining 36 holes will be contested at Midvale.

SU claimed their seat in the tournament with a Pool B bid, convincing the selection committee by capturing the SCAC Championship.

The Pirates have been paired with Hope and Methodist for the first and second rounds. They open the first round on the #1 tee at Midvale Country Club beginning at 12:30 pm EST before moving to Mendon Golf Club for the second round. Methodist has held the top spot in the GCAA Coaches Top 25 poll all season while Hope enters the tournament unranked.

Southwestern finished in 22nd place last season and posted their highest finish of 11th in 2014. Senior Cody Hebert made the cut last year as an individual after winning a one-hole playoff and finished the tournament tied for 26th after jumping up eight spots on the final day.
