Connor snatches second at SCAC Championship

After a blazing day one, sophomore Connor Murphy continued his outstanding play to capture second place in the SCAC Conference Championship at Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas Tuesday.

Texas Lutheran's Adam Peterson shot his lowest round of the tournament of overtake Murphy on day two, shooting a three-under-par. Murphy had a shot at tying Peterson on the 18th hole of the day, #9 of the course. His tee shot on the par three dropped on the front fringe setting up an 18 foot put for birdie. His read was perfect but the put came up just a foot short to keep Peterson one stroke ahead.

Murphy finished with a 215 for the tournament (74-68-73) for second place. Jordan Cowart posted a 78 on the final round to finish tied for ninth with a 224 combined score (76-70-78), earning a spot on the Second Team All-SCAC.

Cody Hebert eagled the #8 par five and finished in 14th overall with 228 strokes (79-75-74). Sutherland Stith captured the Freshman-of-the-Year title with a 229 and ending tied for 15th (79-74-76). Tyler Gammill rounded out Southwestern with a 235 (80-81-74).

Southwestern finished in third place overall with a team score of 892, two strokes behind Trinity. Schreiner won the event with an 879.

The Pirates will learn their fate on May 4th when the NCAA Championship selections are made.
