Men’s Golf Falls to Trinity in Championship

Southwestern University was bested 3-2 by Trinity in the SCAC Championships match-play on Sunday in Shreveport, La.

The Pirates opened the Championship with a 5-0 sweep over the University of Dallas on Saturday. The win sent Southwestern into a match-play final with Trinity who defeated Centenary 4-1 in the opening round.

Cody Hebert and Jordan Cowart won their match-ups while James Charles, Michael Gebhardt and Cameron Button fell to give the Tigers the win.

Southwestern University freshman Michael Gebhardt was named the 2013 SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year - the first such honor for a Southwestern player since current teammate and senior James Charles was named the league's Freshman-of-the-Year in 2010.

Nationally-ranked Southwestern will now wait to learn their fate for the national tournament. The Pirates are looking to earn their second national tournament bid.
