Football's Hover Named ASC Offensive Player of the Week

RICHARDSON, Texas — Junior quarterback Frederick Hover was named the American Southwest Conference Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Belhaven Blazers. 

Hover accounted for over 400 yards of total offense and all three of the Pirates' touchdowns in Southwestern University's 21-10 victory on Saturday afternoon in Georgetown, breaking off several big plays to extend drives and put the Pirates in scoring position. 

He finished with 288 yards rushing and 128 yards passing, rattling off a 75-yard run and connecting on a 60-yard pass to earn his fourth career ASC Player of the Week honors, splitting the award with Hardin-Simmons' quarterback Ty Hooper.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Ty Hooper, QB, Sr., Hardin-Simmons

Hardin-Simmons senior quarterback Ty Hooper (Pampa, Texas) threw for 254 yards and five touchdowns on 21-of-29 passing in the No. 9/11 Cowboys' 48-27 win against Sul Ross State. He had scoring passes of 18, 19, 43, 45 and nine yards in the win.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Joey Longoria, DT, Jr., Mary Hardin-Baylor

Mary Hardin-Baylor junior Joey Longoria (Pearland, Texas) had a team-best six tackles and two sacks as the No. 2/2 Cru posted its second consecutive shutout – a 55-0 win at Howard Payne. His two sacks were for 17 yards as UMHB held the Yellow Jackets to just 95 total yards. This is Longoria's second Player of the Week of the season.

CO-SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Rae Millsap, KR, Fr., Hardin-Simmons

Hardin-Simmons freshman kick returner Rae Millsap (Abilene, Texas) had two kick returns for 129 yards, including an 89-yard return for a touchdown in the Cowboys' 48-27 win against Sul Ross State. This is Millsap's second Player of the Week award of the year.

CO-SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Aaron Sims, PR, Fr., Mary Hardin-Baylor

Mary Hardin-Baylor freshman punt returner Aaron Sims (Cameron, Texas) returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown and finished with 130 yards on four punt returns in the No. 2/2 Cru's 55-0 victory at Howard Payne. He averaged 32.5 yards per return and added three receptions for nine yards.

Offensive

Mary Hardin-Baylor senior running back Markeith Miller (Garland, Texas) set the tone of the game with a 41-yard touchdown run on the opening play in the No. 2/2 Cru's 55-0 win at Howard Payne. He added a 33-yard touchdown reception later in the game and finished with 173 yards on just 12 carries for a 14.4 yard average.

Texas Lutheran junior running back Austin Mathews (Houston, Texas) scored from a yard out with 11 seconds on the clock to give the Bulldogs a 28-21 home win over East Texas Baptist. Mathews scored three times on the ground on runs of six, eight and one yards. He finished with 33 yards for 141 yards and had five catches for 62 yards.

Louisiana College senior running back Aaron Woods (Lafayette, La.) had a breakout performance in the Wildcats' 35-23 win at McMurry, carrying the ball 21 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns. He sealed the game with 77 yards in the final quarter, including a three-play scoring drive that covered 52 yards for the final touchdown.

East Texas Baptist senior wide receiver Richard Johnson (Cleveland, Texas) scored all three touchdowns in the Tigers' 28-21 loss at Texas Lutheran. He had scoring catches of one, 57 and 42 yards. Johnson tallied 10 receptions for 179 yards.

Defensive

Texas Lutheran senior linebacker Emory Cuzze (Buda, Texas) led the Bulldogs with 11 tackles, a sack for three yards and a forced fumble in the Bulldogs' 28-21 victory against East Texas Baptist.

Louisiana College freshman defensive end Terrance Garnett Jr. (Alexandria, La.) was a force off the end in the Wildcats' 35-23 victory at McMurry, making seven stops with 1.5 sacks for 15 yards and a pass breakup.

Southwestern junior defensive back Aaron Robinson (Chandler, Ariz.) helped lead the Pirates defense that held Belhaven to just nine first downs and 2-for-13 on third down conversions in a 21-10 victory. Robinson recorded 10 tackles, eight solo, with two for a loss, and one pass breakup.

East Texas Baptist sophomore linebacker Josiah Dykes (Killeen, Texas) had a career-high 11 tackles with two break-ups in the Tigers' 28-21 loss at Texas Lutheran.

Howard Payne junior linebacker Austin Killgore (Tarkington, Texas) led the Yellow Jackets with seven tackles, with 1.5 for a loss and a sack in their loss to No. 2/2 Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Hardin-Simmons senior cornerback Zac Richardson (The Woodlands, Texas) had a career-best 10 tackles, forced a fumble and broke up a pass in the Cowboys' 48-27 victory against Sul Ross State.

Special Teams

Texas Lutheran freshman punter Justice Porter (Houston, Texas) averaged 36.6 yards per punt on eight attempts in the wind during the Bulldogs' 28-21 win against East Texas Baptist. He had a long of 69 and put one inside the 20.

Howard Payne freshman punter Kyle King (Milano, Texas) had 10 punts for a 39.3 yard average and a long 58 yards in the Yellow Jackets' loss to No. 2/2 Mary Hardin-Baylor.
