Southwestern Falls To No. 2 UMHB 
BELTON, Texas – In a game that was not in doubt for long, the Southwestern football team took a hard loss at the hand of No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor, losing 77-7, on Saturday at Crusader Stadium. 
 
The Pirates racked up 237 total yards, 71 yards through the air and 166 rushing yards against the Cru, however, the Cru offense pushed past the Pirates to give the Cru  398 yards of total offense including 229 through the air.
 
The Cru wasted no time in putting points on the board by forcing a Pirate fumble that led the Cru to scoring with 9:20 left in the first quarter, starting the game at a 7-0.  The Cru also found a five-yard scoring pass on the next drive to give the Cru a 14-0 lead. The scoring would not stop there as the Pirates gave up another fumble to give the Cru the chance to push the lead to 21-0 over the Pirates. 
 
After two consecutive hits on the Pirates, Frederick Hover made a 28 yard run into Cru territory for a touchdown which was followed with a kick by Luke Fierst to put the game at  21-7 after one quarter. 
 
Going into the second quarter UMHB made several strong offensives plays against the Pirates. UMHB Reggie Cole intercepted one of Hovers passes returned it 33 yards for the Cru which lead to another touchdown by the Cru. Going into the half,  UMHB would up the Pirates 51-7.
 
The last two quarters the Pirates could not get the ball back into Cru territory to puts points on the board. The game would end with Mary Hardin-Baylor taking a  77-7 victory. 
 
Standout Players
 
Hover ran for 68 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries for the Pirates, but was 4-12 through the air for 71 yards and was intercepted twice. A.J. Daniels had one catch for 36 yards for Southwestern. Ben Brockman led the defense with six tackles and he blocked a UMHB extra point as well.
 
The Southwestern moves to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the ASC. Up next, the Pirates travel Alpine TX to take on Sul Ross State next Saturday, Oct. 6th at 6 pm.
