Broussard earns All-America honors

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern University senior Justin Broussard was named D3football.com second-team All-American, the online publication announced on Friday evening.

Broussard, a 6-foot-1, 235-pound defensive end, also was named to a Cliff Harris Award finalist earlier in the day. The Beaumont native collected second-team All-South Region honors from D3football.com and was tabbed SCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He capped off his career as a four-time, first-team all-league honoree and was invited to play in the National Bowl earlier this month.

Broussard tallied 60 total tackles, including 20.5 for loss and 15.5 sacks in 2016. He finished his career with 37 sacks, which is tied for second all-time in SCAC history. Broussard also set the conference's single-game mark with 5.5 sacks at Trinity on October 15.

The Pirates finished the 2016 campaign with a 7-3 overall record and were crowned SCAC champions with a 6-0 mark.
