Pirates fall to Oklahoma Panhandle State, 59-7

GEORGETOWN – The Southwestern University football was over-matched Saturday against NCAA Division II Oklahoma Panhandle State falling, 59-7, in non-conference action at Birkelbach Field.

Southwestern (1-4) did see bright spots in the second half as they were able to get on the scoreboard with 9:41 left in the game. Dylan Wilburn broke free down the sideline to rumble 36-yards for the Pirates only score of the afternoon.

It was Wilburn's second 100-yard rushing game as the sophomore finished with 105 yards on 17 carries to lead the way for Southwestern.

Oklahoma Panhandle State (4-2) barely outgained the Pirates posting 399 yards of total offense compared to 239 for Southwestern.

However, it was five turnovers in the game including three in the first half that all resulted in Aggie points. It helped OPSU take a 45-0 lead heading into intermission after scoring on their first three possessions in the game.

The Pirate defense was able to hold strong and build a solid second half with an interception and a fumble recovery.

Tyler Frisby led Southwestern with eight tackles while Justin Broussard finished with 4.5 tackles for a loss and one sack as the second leading tackler.

Caleb Holbrook led OPSU with 212 yards passing on 17-of-34 with two touchdowns.

Southwestern hits the road next Saturday for a non-conference matchup with Trinity. Kickoff from San Antonio is set for 6 p.m.
