GEORGETOWN – The honors continue for a pair of defensive players for the Southwestern University football team as Nik Kelly and Justin Broussard were named to the D3Football Team of the Week presented by Scoutware.

The Pirate defense forced seven turnovers in a 27-20 win over Sul Ross State Saturday and with the impressive defensive effort the accolades have continued to roll in.

Kelly had a pair of interceptions as well as also recovering a fumble for Southwestern as he earned national defensive honors from The Dream Bowl earlier this week. The Houston, Texas, native finished with five tackles, three of them solo tackles in his first official collegiate start.

Broussard was a force in the backfield for the Pirates as he recorded two sacks and 3.5 tackles for a loss. Equally impressive, the sophomore forced three fumbles and was the second leading tackler for Southwestern with 10 tackles.

Southwestern returns to action as they travel to East Texas Baptist to take on the Tigers under the lights. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
