Austin and Team Stars & Stripes bring all-star trophy to SU

GEORGETOWN – Southwestern University head football coach Joe Austin proudly brought the Tazon De Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) trophy back after a 29-7 win for Team Stars and Stripes over Mexico's CONADEIP All-Star Team over the weekend in Monterrey, Mexico. Austin served as the offensive coordinator for Team Stars and Stripes.

After a punt on the opening possession for the NCAA Division III all-stars from the Americans, Team Stars and Stripes never looked back en route to the 29-7 victory. Austin – coaching in his fourth straight Tazon De Estrellas game – helped guide his team offensively to over 450 yards of total offense on 66 plays.

Austin was also reunited with former Hanover College quarterback Dexter Britt in the game who split time with the game's MVP Luke Barthelmess of Lawrence University.

The Tazon De Estrellas trophy will reside in Georgetown in the Southwestern Field House as the American team picked up a second consecutive win in the series. The game was the fifth annual all-star game between NCAA Division III all-stars against Mexico's CONADEIP all-stars – the highest intercollegiate level of football in Mexico.
