The Pirate football team returned to the gridiron for the first time in over 60 years as members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Southwestern boasted one of the top defenses in the league in the first season as defensive end Justin Broussard led the league in sacks and was among the leaders in tackles.

The Southwestern men's and women's basketball continue non-conference action as the men host Incarnate Word and the women travel to cross-town rival Concordia. Tip for the women is set for 5:30 p.m. while the men game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
