THE GAME

After two solid defensive performances the Pirates are looking to put all phases of the game together and bring home their first win since 1950. Despite falling last week in Oklahoma to Bacone College, the defense forced three turnovers, recorded two sacks and seven tackles for a loss.

The Pirates will have their work cut out for them on Saturday as East Texas Baptist enters as one of the top scoring offenses in NCAA-III. The Tigers knocked off SCAC foe, Austin College, in their season opener last week, 54-32.

THE SERIES

This will be the fifth meeting all-time between the Pirates and East Texas Baptist as SU leads the series 3-1. Southwestern knocked off the Tigers 19-9 Oct. 28, 1950, the last meeting between the schools.

THE COACHES

Joe Austin (Concordia-St. Paul '01)

Austin is in his fifth year as a head coach after spending the previous four seasons at Hanover College where he helped lead the Panthers to back-to-back second place finishes in the HCAC. He was also the offensive coordinator at the University of Dubuque after spending time at Augsburg College and his alma mater, Concordia-St. Paul.

Joshua Eargle (Memphis '01)

Eargle takes over at the helm of the Tigers after assistant coaching stops in NCAA Division I and II. Eargle's roots are originally from East Texas as he has made coaching stops in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Oklahoma before returning to East Texas. He was most recently defensive coordinator at Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Okla.

A TURNOVER BATTLE

The Pirate defense has held its own despite being on the field for more than half the first two games. Southwestern ranks 41st nationally in turnovers gained and 37th in interceptions while also leading the SCAC in both categories. The Pirates 3 interceptions are just behind national leaders St. Lawrence and Dubuque (7) while all the turnovers have led to Pirate points. In last week's game an interception by Jarrett Bornstad set up an 8-yard touchdown run from Dylan Wilburn to give SU their first lead of the season 14-12.

RECORD BREAKER

Wide Receiver Colten Shea broke one SCAC record and nearly a second as the Pirates made their highly anticipated football return against Texas Lutheran. Shea set a single-game record for all-purpose yards with 367 yards after finishing the night with 258 yards receiving and 109 yards on six kickoff returns. He was nine yards shy of the SCAC single-game mark for receiving yards as he had scores of 68-yards and 40-yards.

A WIN FOR THE PIRATES…

A win for the Pirates would give Southwestern its first win of 2013 and a 4-1 all-time record vs. East Texas Baptist … Southwestern would pick up its first home win of the season … it would make the Pirates 155-205-35 all-time

A LOSS FOR THE PIRATES…

A loss would be the Pirates third of the season and move their record to 0-3 … it would make the Pirates 3-2 all-time vs. East Texas Baptist … It would also make the Pirates 154-206-35 all-time

A LOOK AHEAD …

Pirate football face their first of two first-year football programs as they travel to Arkansas to take on Hendrix College … The Warriors picked a win in week one over Westminster (Mo.) on a last-second field goal and stand at 1-1 on the year …Oklahoma Baptist currently sits at 0-3 in their first year (more on SU opponents on pg 8) … Homecoming for the Pirates has also been set for Nov. 2 vs. Austin College … The Pirates will play three conference games this season, as their Nov. 2 game vs. Austin College and Nov. 9 meeting at Trinity will not count as official SCAC games
