Men's Basketball's Brandon Alexander Earns All-Region Honors

Southwestern University Pirates men's basketball forward Brandon Alexander continues to receive recognition for one of the best seasons in school history.

The 2018-19 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Player of the Year was named to the 18th annual D3hoops.com All-Region First Team on Monday.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, who were contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 716 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.

In 26 games, Alexander averaged a school-record 18.1 points per game on 44.2 percent shooting, hitting 35.5 percent from deep on 6.3 attempts. He also led the team with 6.2 rebounds per game as the Pirates finished with a share of the SCAC regular season title for only the second time in school history.

"Brandon deserves all the recognition he is receiving this off-season," Head Coach Janson Hightower said. "He is a terrific teammate, worker and leader for our program who has improved since he stepped on campus.  He possesses the ability to carry us with his scoring and hit big shots in big moments."
