Men’s Basketball wins crucial showdown against Centenary

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern (10-14, 5-7) held a tough Gents offense to just 39.2% from the floor and 19% from three-point range to defeat Centenary College (13-10, 7-6) 62-56 Saturday afternoon.

Centenary led the majority of the first half while holding SU to just eight field goals and sent the Pirates into the locker room trailing by three, 29-26.

Ryan Wheeler's layup two minutes into the second half gave the Pirates the lead, 32-31. The lead bounced back and forth over the next 13 minutes until Brandon Alexander's three with 4:22 to play gave Southwestern the lead for good as Centenary was held to just four points in the final six minutes of the game.

Alexander led all scorers with 20 points while Ryan Wheeler added 12 and Joel Martinez 10. Jake Holmes led on the boards with eight rebounds.

The Pirates remain at home to close out the regular season with what is shaping up to be a win to get in game against Texas Lutheran University Friday evening. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
