Pirates Hit Century Mark in Rout of 'Roos

GEORGETOWN - Southwestern (9-14, 5-7) got off to a hot start and continued to pile on the offense, shooting 60 percent from the floor and an astonishing 50 percent from three point range to defeat Austin College (4-19, 2-10) 109-76. 

It took just over five minutes for SU to push their lead to double digits and led by 11 with 12:09 to go in the half after a three from Joel Martinez. Austin College battled back, pulling within three points several times in the first half and trailed by three with 6:13 to go until halftime. The Pirates found a new gear late in the frame as they closed the half on a 13-6 run to lead by 14 at the break, 49-35. 

Southwestern picked up where they left off as the second half got underway. Their lead ballooned to as many as 29, 95-66, with just under five minutes to play. The Pirates could do no wrong in the final three minutes as they closed the game on a 13-4 run to secure the win. 

Four Pirates scored in double figures led by Brandon Alexander's 26 points on 9-15 shooting from the floor. Luke Hicks had nearly a perfect night as he went 8-9 from the field and a perfect 6-6 from three point range for 23 points. Ryan Wheeler added 18 points and Kyle Howard chipped in 14. 

Southwestern out-rebounded the 'Roos 42-25 while committing just 15 turnovers in the contest. 

The Pirates remain at home for another must-win SCAC contest as they face Centenary College on Saturday at 4 pm.
