Pirates fall in semifinals to top-seeded Schreiner, 82-76

GEORGETOWN, Texas – A tight game across the board fell the way of the Mountaineers as Southwestern was knocked out of the SCAC Championship by No. 1 seed Schreiner, 82-76.

Ryan Ogden got the Pirates off to a hot start, going 4 of 4 from 3-point range in the opening six minutes of the contest. Southwestern trailed by a dozen at the break, 45-33, and was down 16 points with 12:25 to play in the second half before making a run to pull within six, 73-67, with five minutes remaining.

Kyle Howard's acrobatic layup with 3:07 left pulled SU even closer, 76-73. Jared Thompson's 3-pointer and jumper on back-to-back possessions gave Schreiner all the cushion they needed to close out the game.

Ogden led all scorers with 27 points while Howard added 11 and Ben Stiver scored 10.

The Pirates close the 2016-17 season with a 14-13 overall record.
