Ogden headlines Southwestern's All-SCAC selections

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Four Southwestern men's basketball players were named to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Teams, the league announced on Saturday night.

Ryan Ogden headlined the Pirates' selections with second-team honors, while Chris Molina and Zach Whitlock were named to the third team. Ben Stiver picked up honorable-mention laurels.

Ogden, a junior forward from Bellaire, finished the year as the team's leader in points and rebounds. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder ranks second in the league with 7.8 rebounds per game. His 16.4 points per outing is good for seventh. Ogden, who was a first-team all-league honoree last year, surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career earlier this season. He poured in a season-high 28 points in Southwestern's 80-63 win over Texas Lutheran on Jan. 17. He also logged four double-doubles during the campaign.

Molina, who was an honorable-mention pick a year ago, averaged 12.3 points in his senior season. The San Antonio native has hit double figures 16 times during the year, including a season-high 21 points in a 94-84 win at Austin College on Jan. 22.

Whitlock, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound forward, earns all-league honors for the third consecutive campaign. The San Angelo native, who was a two-time second-team All-SCAC selection, averaged 13.1 points and 7.0 rebounds in his final collegiate season. Whitlock tallied seven double-doubles during the 2016-17 season, including a 13-point, 15-rebound performance against the 'Roos on Jan. 28.

Stiver, who hails from Fullerton, California, is the conference's leader in 3-point percentage (49.2%) this season. The senior guard hit 65 of 132 attempts from beyond the arc. Stiver also shot 50 percent (103 of 206) from the field and 80 percent (40 of 50) from the charity stripe. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder drilled all six of his 3-point attempts and scored 22 points in Southwestern's 85-73 triumph at Dallas on Jan. 6.

The Pirates completed the 2016-17 season with a 14-13 overall mark. The Bucs advanced to the SCAC Championship Semifinals on Saturday, but dropped an 82-76 decision to top-seeded Schreiner to end the campaign.
