GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Mary Hardin-Baylor shot 51.7 percent from the field, including 58.6 percent in the second half, and handed Southwestern a 76-66 setback in non-conference action Saturday night at the Robertson Center.
The Pirates (3-4) raced out to an 8-2 lead to start the contest, but the Cru (4-3) outscored the hosts 29-14 to take a 31-22 advantage at the half.
Daniel Mills found Ryan Lang for a layup to give Mary Hardin-Baylor a 60-45 lead with 8:29 to play.
Southwestern chipped into the Cru's advantage, reeling off a 16-4 run to cut the deficit to three points after Ryan Ogden buried a 3-pointer with 3:59 remaining.
After a Mills jumper, Ogden made a pair of free throws to cut the lead to three again. However, UMHB scored 10 of the final 13 points in the contest to sweep the season series.
A trio of Pirates scored double figures, led by Zach Whitlock's 16 points. Ogden and Ben Stiver both added a dozen.
Southwestern will travel to San Antonio next weekend to competed in the Leslie Robinson Memorial Classic, hosted by Trinity.
