BROWNWOOD, Texas – Southwestern trailed at halftime but pulled out the 66-63 win over Howard Payne on Tuesday evening.
Howard Payne put together a late half run and ended up sending the Pirates into the locker room down by nine, 34-25.
Southwestern rallied in the second half and briefly took the lead on Mike May's three with 13:29 to play.
The lead bounced back and forth until Chris Molina's layup put the Pirates up two, 65-63 and Southwestern closed out the contest.
Ryan Ogden led with 18 points on 6-11 shooting while Ben Stiver added 12 and Zach Whitlock 11.
Southwestern shot 38.1% from the floor and 62.5% from three point range while committing just 10 turnovers in the contest.
The Pirates return home to face Mary Hardin-Baylor on December 10th at 4 pm.
