Turnovers cost Pirates in home opener loss

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern committed 23 turnovers as they fell 79-72 to Concordia at home Monday evening.

SU jumped out to an early lead, 15-8, but Concordia quickly bridged the gap with an effective full court press and held SU to just two points in the next five minutes of action. By halftime, the Tornados increased their lead to 11, 48-37.

The Pirates clawed their way back and were within four points, 64-60 with 9:33 to play. Ryan Ogden pulled Southwestern within two from the free throw line, 74-72, with just over a minute remaining, but the Pirates were unable to get the equalizer to fall 79-72.

Southwestern falls to 1-2 on the year and return to the road to face Pomona-Pitzer in California on Friday at 5:30 pm CST.
