
ABILENE, Texas – Connor Kim hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with one second left in the game, and Southwestern completed an improbable comeback to knock off Hardin-Simmons, 98-95, in Tuesday night's season opener.
The Pirates (1-0) erased a 17-point deficit to overcome the Cowboys (0-1). Southwestern used a 20-5 run in the final 4:23, capped off by Kim's jump shot from the top of the key that rattled in.
Ryan Ogden led five Pirates into double figures with a game-high 22 points. Ben Stiver added 20, including seven during the final three minutes of the game. Kim finished with 18 points, while Zach Whitlock logged a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Southwestern will travel to St. Edward's Thursday for an exhibition tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Austin.
